Vannen XL by Huck Gee
Fans wanted bigger watches. Vannen listened.
Coming Monday, November 22nd, we will be releasing limited quantities of Huck's first Vannen XL Artist Watch, "Killing Time". We will have 10 Artist Proofs and a handful of regular editions available for purchase at Noon on Monday via Huck's store. This series is currently limited to 150 pieces and each will be signed, numbered, and available for $85 each.
Vannen Artist Watches proudly presents our biggest watches yet. We retooled every inch of our standard size Artist Watches to bring you a timepiece fit for larger wrists and showier spirits. Prominent faceplates and expanded straps give artists more room to design. Larger crowns are now engraved with each artist's logo. Watch loops are wider, emphasizing the artist's signature. Our XL series has all the greatness you've come to expect from Vannen artist watches, only now in an expanded format. On Saturday, November 20th, Vannen drops its first XL timepiece, Killing Time, by fan-favorite, Huck Gee. The San Francisco-based designer set out to create something he would want to wear. Huck's inspirations come from Japanese culture, art, toys and cars. Huck's watch features his iconic "Skullhead" on the face, a skull and crossbones strap design and a contrasting red and black signature loop. The Vannen XL series is a perfect match for Huck, who at 6'4, is happy to have a watch that fits his wrist. "From day one, when Vannen approached me, their concept and attitude has been awesome," said Huck. "I'm really excited to see this get out there." Along with its continuing stellar roster of standard size watches, Vannen plans to release a new XL watch each month. The XL watches comes packaged in plastic long boxes with artist-designed, signed and numbered, spot UV coated paper-based slip covers. Vannen's XL Artist Watches are currently limited to 150 pieces worldwide, making this a truly collectible timepiece. At $85 each, Vannen gives you style without sacrificing affordability. ABOUT THE ARTIST A UK native, Huck Gee is a contemporary artist, illustrator, toy maker, and designer best known by toy enthusiasts for his iconic “Skullhead” character and “Gold Life” art creations. Heavily influenced by Japanese and Hong Kong pop art, Gee calls his style “Bastardized Asian Pop Culture”. The demand for Huck’s Custom Toy Art and illustrations has grown quite immense, with small runs of hand crafted Art Toys and original prints selling out in seconds online and shipping to art collectors worldwide. Huck’s works have been exhibited in galleries worldwide and in 2007 his “Hello My Name Is” 8” Dunny was accepted into the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. In addition, Huck has also consigned several pieces for one of the world’s leading fine art auction houses: Christie’s Auction House. He’s released numerous limited production toys through Kidrobot including some of the most exclusive and sought after Dunnys to date, figures for The Standard, DJ Qbert, and a series of figures for Barney’s New York which came dressed in the 2005 spring collections of five of the world’s most famous fashion designers: Marc Jacobs, Dries Van Noten, Jil Sander, Rick Owens, and Duckie Brown. His extraordinary skills with customizing vinyl toys earned him the title of Best Customizer in the 2009 Kidrobot Artist Awards. Most recently Huck collaborated with Ken Block and DC Shoes for Ken’s new Monster World Rally Team WRC logo entitled “Blockhead”. Coinciding with this project will be several limited edition shoe and clothing runs, the first of which is to be released in summer of 2010. Huck currently runs a studio in San Francisco with several assistants, and when not busy planning world domination, he spends his free time chasing skirts and pretending to be a racecar driver.
